Welcome to the   Home page
for Joe Senungetuk's Sinangituq Arts web site.

Art for sale. Fine art for sale. My soul for sale --- (not). Arts and Crafts for sale --- (not). (Delete, delete)
The internet online --- What a place. The internet. An unimaginable place for this 67 year old Inupiaq artist/writer living in Anchorage, Alaska. I hope to have fun building this site by myself (for now, because there are tech-savvy friends and who would love to get their hands on my non-too-much money)

Sixty seven years of experience (That's what Picasso had when he finally "made it.")

Joe's art schooling was primarily from the late sixties in San Francisco Art Institute. But he also has extensive teaching and learning experiences just from being connected to early and later movements of this genre known as  "Contemporary Alaska Native Art." With this site he would like to introduce you to his and other International Inuit art.
Right now there is no business nor an internet site run strictly by an Alaska Native artist/writer whose works and experience are exposed in this fashion. There are many commercial art sites around, Joe agrees. But fine arts and experimental works are not done by people who desire quick rewards.
"We wish to explore art for its own sake." is the mantra of people who Joe admires.

So walk (click) through these pages and see for yourself in what Joe believes were the incentives for Precontact Native artists and truly artistic motives rendered thousands of years ago. These personal and exciting works happened easily until the outsiders (or "athlat" (others) came.
Here are some pertinent addresses. The company name, Sinangituq Arts is a conversion from "Senungetuk" which is our sur-name given by missionaries who visited Kingigin (Wales, AK) in the mid 1800's. "Sinangituq" is derived from the International Inupiaq spelling with one exception: the "ng" is actually a combined "ng" sound but is actually an "n" with a decender on its right lower side, becoming what is commonly known as a "tailed (or pamiuluq)" "n" in International Inupiaq.
